World Prematurity Day endorsed at 78th World Health Assembly

I’m inspired by the WHO’s landmark decision at the 78th World Health Assembly to officially recognize World Prematurity Day every November 17th. This important action shines a spotlight on the millions of premature babies born each year. Preterm birth (babies arriving before 37 weeks) is the leading cause of death in children under five, and can bring lifelong health and developmental challenges.

This new recognition will encourage improvements in neonatal care, from kangaroo-mother contact to specialized newborn units, offering a lifeline to families worldwide. It’s a powerful reminder that every little life matters, and we must keep fighting for every one of them!
